--
Introduction
Sejong University’s School of Liberal Studies focuses on student growth, supporting first-year students as they understand themselves, explore majors, and design their career paths. Instead of being bound to a specific major, students gain broad general knowledge and foundational coursework. By the end of the first year, students can fully choose their major based on their interests and aptitudes.
The 21st century calls for individuals equipped with integrative thinking and creative problem-solving skills to respond effectively to rapidly changing social and technological environments. The School of Liberal Studies responds to this need by giving students opportunities to integrate knowledge from diverse academic areas.
Students develop a wide range of perspectives and integrative thinking skills through academic experiences across liberal arts, social sciences, natural sciences, and engineering. Various foundational courses and extracurricular programs are offered to build core future competencies such as creativity, problem-solving, and communication, alongside mentoring and career planning support.
The School of Liberal Studies offers diverse foundational major courses and extracurricular programs designed to foster essential future-oriented competencies like creativity, problem-solving, and communication skills. It also provides major mentoring and career counseling to support students' academic and professional path planning. Notably, the program prioritizes interdisciplinary integration—encouraging students to generate novel questions, pursue innovative solutions, and navigate fluid learning across disciplinary boundaries.
After one year of study and reflection, students can voluntarily choose their major from the university’s 38 departments and majors. They may also pursue double majors or interdisciplinary programs later. Graduates enter diverse fields such as public organizations, corporations, research institutes, and startups — or continue advanced study at graduate school. The School of Liberal Studies respects each student’s choices and supports the first steps toward becoming future-oriented professionals.
